South Korea Trip 2016 Part 6: Nami Island
January 10, 2017
Second blog post for the year and my second to the last entry for my South Korea 2016 trip! Totally overdue but at least it's already here~
The subway ride back to Seoul was long and tiring because the train was so packed and we didn't get to sit during the first hour of the journey. When we got back to Myeongdong, we stopped by this shop near our guest house which sells packed meals. We've always wanted to try the shop's meals and because we didn't really want to eat in a restaurant, we just ordered a take out meal and brought it to our guest house.
No photos for my haul because I suck and I am not an expert blogger sorry :(
Note: This may look like a visual diary of some sort and not exactly a detailed blog entry. I honestly didn't know much about Nami Island when I went there, thus, the lack of informative stories -_-
Day 6 (April 18, 2016) | Nami Island
We started our journey to Nami Island at 9 in the morning. Our mode of transporation was the subway and it took us around an hour and 30 minutes before we reached Gapyeong Station. This journey involved at least 3 line transfers. From Gapyeong Station, we took a short cab ride to the ferry wharf.
We've arrived~
Nami Island is a crescent-shaped island in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea. It's known as one of the filming locations of the widely popular Korean drama, Winter Sonata. I, myself, have watched that drama when I was in elementary school lol. It's a must go-to tourist destination, especially if it's your first time in South Korea and you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Seoul.
Nami Island is culturally independent from South Korea that's why it's also called "Naminara Republic." It has its own currency, bank, entry visa, etc...much like a separate country.
We've gone through "immigration" and paid for our entrance fees, thus here's our "entry visa!" Ticket fees for adults is at 10,000 won but if you're a tourist/foreigner, you'll get it at a discounted price of 8,000 won.
Jodie, Kwik, Jj and I before we ride the ferry~
Nami Island is a 5-min ferry ride from the wharf
Finally here in this half moon (cue DEAN's Half Moon) -shaped island! We arrived here a couple of minutes before 12nn.
This tree-lined path greeted us when we entered the island. They all look so majestic and beautiful! Seeing it felt so magical!
These lights (?!) were hanging on the trees and it was such a pretty sight. Too bad we didn't see it all lit up because we left before the skies got dark...
Since it was lunch time already when we arrived in the island, we decided to grab a meal first. We chose this galbi restaurant because we were craving for grilled meat. I also have to mention that this was one of the best meals we've had in South Korea! Quite pricey but definitely worth it!
Galbi goodness! My stomach is seriously growling right now.
We also ordered this Korean pancake which tasted awesome! One of the best Korean pancakes I've ever had!
Jj was the cook of the day~
After eating, we just strolled around the island and took lots of photos! Everything was so picturesque so forgive the coming photo overload not only of the island but also of my face *insert see no evil monkey here lol*!
More tree-lined road photos because it's just so pretty!
Look how tall the trees are!
Spring is still here! Colorful flower bushes were spread out in the island.
Cherry blossom trees... although there were only a handful left with actual cherry blossom flowers
More trees!
Different parts of the island give off different charms
How can something look so peaceful???
It was actually kind of difficult looking for a spot where we could take photos of ourselves. Thankfully, we found this empty (not crowded) area filled with huge, tall trees and this was where we had our "photoshoot" sessions!
Funny how we used this one tree for our photos though! There were lots of trees in the area but we all posed with this one lol. Kamsahamnida~
There are also accommodation places available the island and I guess this traditional-looking house is one of those?
I don't exactly what these are but they look too interesting to not take a photo!
This duo was playing music perfect for the season... accompanied by a guitar and all.
We left Nami Island at around 4pm. I know we haven't fully explored the island but since it was our last full day in South Korea, we had to forego other activities. The next time I'll go to South Korea, I'll stop by Nami Island again if it's autumn or winter season. I believe the place will look more magical if I go during those periods. I should also research more on the must-dos in the island to take advantage of the unique cultural experience I'll get there. Soon~
My meal! I think I ordered some spicy pork something? Complete with sides! This actually tasted pretty good and I remember it not being expensive as well.
After dinner, we rested in the guest house first before leaving at 8pm to buy skincare stuff (well for Kwik and I!). Out of all the days we stayed in Seoul (and in Myeongdong at that!), we only did our skincare shopping on our last night. Typical procrastinators lol! That also shows how we are just simple girls and we can make do with just one night of shopping in Seoul :o Although next time, we should definitely save at least 2 nights for shopping because it was difficult to shop when all the stores are already closing lol.
Myeongdong...
...Shopping Street!
To celebrate our last night in Seoul, we bought soju, Chilsung cider, beer, yakult and chips in the convenience store. That was a fun night! :D
...and I'm almost done with my South Korea trip stories! Just one more blog entry! For now, I have to sleep. Good night~
